more birthday cakes

I managed to find a cute photo of me and my birthday cake from when I was four, it looks like angel food with the yummy pudding and whipped cream frosting!

Some of our earlier, not so fancy cakes...

This one is for Barry.

This one was for Great Grandpa Stoesz

My niece loves to bake and decorate cakes, she did this one by herself for me this year!

My niece and I designed and decorated this one for my daughter, who turned 21.

These are the cakes I have decorated for my twin nephews.

This is their first birthday cake!

it isn't a birthday without a cake!

Besides quilting, and going to flea markets I also like to bake and decorate cakes. Over the years I've become the unofficial Stoesz family birthday cake baker. My mom always made my birthdays special and I remember the cakes being delicious and pretty. She usually baked sponge or angel food cakes with fluffy whipped cream and pudding frosting, still one of my favourites.

These are some cakes I made for my daughter Taylor

quilt retreat 2012

All year long I think about the our next Quilt Retreat, and then, suddenly, it's over! We had a great time again this year in Gimli, Manitoba. There were 20 of us that were able to attend, some of these ladies I only see once a year at Retreat, so needless to say, although alot of quilting gets done, the chatting is the most fun, the food a close second. We get some really great, and filling meals served to us and inbetween the meals they serve us snacks! So we always joke when snack arrives but somehow we manage to cram down those yummy muffins and danishes, too. It was cloudy on Friday but Saturday and Sunday were beautiful sunny days! Even though it was only 12 degrees I had two nice walks on the beach looking for beach glass and nice stones, which is one of my favourite things to do.

No quilt weekend would be complete without buying a little fabric for the stash!

These are some of the squares I completed this weekend.

Some of the quilts others worked on this weekend.

Saturday evenings two prize winners, bags sewn from recycled juice boxes and filled with goodies.
